If you are a self-confessed foodie, then you will know the enjoyment that comes from indulging your passion for tasty cuisine. But, you don’t need to stop at merely eating delicious food, you can develop your passion and make it a bigger part of your life.

If you are keen to take your interest in food a step further, why not take up a new hobby? There are so many different hobbies out there that are perfect for foodies. If you want to fill your day with even more food-related enjoyment, why not introduce an extra dimension to your love of food and take up one of these interests in your spare time:

Foraging

Foraging has become a popular pastime in recent years, but, historically, foraging was a necessary way of gathering food rather than a hobby. Foraging for foodstuffs such as fruits and mushrooms is a lot of fun and an excellent way to get out in the fresh air and discover new places.

Foraging for food is an excellent way to discover unusual ingredients and new flavors. But, before you start foraging, you need to know what is safe to eat, and what you should avoid. Many people find it helpful to do a foraging course or to read a foraging book to help guide them and ensure that they don’t accidentally pick anything poisonous or harmful.

Fishing

Fishing is a hobby that is enjoyed by people across the world and is the perfect choice if you are looking for a new interest that will help you to relieve stress as it is such a calm and peaceful way to spend your time. Fishing gives you the opportunity to learn a brand new skill and to learn more about the fish that you catch. If you have a favorite fish that you enjoy using in your recipes, why not try to catch one yourself? Preparing a meal using fish that you have caught yourself brings a fantastic feeling of achievement and satisfaction. To fish successfully you will need to learn the best techniques to use for different locations, so catching trout as a new fisherman from a lake will be an entirely different experience to catching fish in the open, moving water. Learning these new techniques is all part of the fun, and once you have your catch, you can look forward to using it in one of your favorite recipes. You can also check out this fishing gear guide for what to bring to go fishing.

Gardening

If you haven’t done much gardening in the past, why not start small and grow some herbs, and low maintenance plants such as a chilli plant or strawberry plant and then build up from there? You could have a garden bursting with delicious fresh produce before you know it. Invest in some quality outdoor furniture, and you can eat what you grow outside as well, really making the most of the fresh air.
