Take Your Culinary Skills Up A Notch And Cook Like A Pro

You’ve been cooking for a while now, and a lot of your dishes have become instinctive. You know how much oil to use, how to get your pasta al dente, and you’ve even mastered some of the tough stuff like souffles. Where do you go from here? How do you take your culinary skills to the next level?

Invest In The Right Equipment
All good chefs need the right appliances and equipment. This doesn’t mean you should dash out and spend money on accessories that will just gather dust on the shelf. Think carefully about the items that would enhance your cooking. For example:

A decent set of chef’s knives
Pro masher for potatoes and root veggies
A simple hand blender will come to your rescue in a variety of situations
A Mixer for budding bakers
A 15 piece knife sets is a nice choice

Follow The Experts
Anyone can get in a rut with their cooking. In our busy lives, it’s easy to fall back on those faithful meals that we know we can whip up in no time at all. But to really up your game, you need to be aware of what’s going on around you. What are the new culinary trends? What do you and your family enjoy when you eat out? What the are chefs talking about?

Creativity thrives on change and the constant need to evolve and improve. Don’t let what you’ve learned become stagnant. Get out of your comfort zone and try new techniques, styles, flavors, etc. If you love to eat paninis when you go out of lunch. Consider investing in a panini maker and trying your own. Check reviews and find the best panini press for your needs. If you enjoyed the Thai meal you had last week, read up on the ingredients, flavors, and traditions around this cuisine.

Be Creative
Creativity is not something that you either have or don’t have. Contrary to popular belief, it can be learned. Start by following recipes and then as you increase in confidence, add your own flair. Find new and exciting ways to present food and mix flavors. For example, find your own way to create your kids’ bento boxes with food they’ll love, and present it in interesting and unexpected ways.

Take A Class
The thing about cooking is that there is always something new to learn, whether it’s a new technique or an emerging food trend. No-one can ever know everything. If they say they do, then it’s likely they’re becoming complacent and run the risk of their ideas becoming stagnant.

Look online for interesting tutorials you can follow at home. Or consider taking a weekend or evening class to learn from the experts.

Favorite Foods
Prepare special dishes for your family by learning their favorite foods. Rather than serving the usual fare, give it a new twist and present them with something a little different.

Being a good cook is not about striving for perfection. It’s about continually learning and evolving. Any creative pursuit needs new input and ideas to keep it fresh and interesting. You’ve proved you have the basics; now it’s time to take it up a notch.
