The Foods That Protect Your Health

Food is a powerful thing. It can either ruin your health, or it can get it to a point where it has never been better. For the purpose of this article, we’re here to show you the foods that can actually protect your health. Unfortunately, a lot of us don’t fill our diets with them. Due to the westernised diet, we’re more interesting in the sweet treats and junk food we can eat. Well, we’re here to change that view. The older you get, the more you should be looking out for your health. So here’s the foods that can protect your health as you age.

Salmon

Salmon is great for many different reasons. One of the main being its level of omega-3 fatty acids. Now, fatty acids doesn’t sound appealing, but it is what keeps your heart and blood in good working order. It essentially cleans the blood of toxins, something i’m sure a few of us could all use! It can also help to decrease the risk of getting an abnormal heart beat, and just regulate and maintain the normal function of the heart. It is a tasty addition that is easy to put into a healthy eating diet. You can cook it in a few different ways depending on what flavour you’re trying to achieve. Some people even like it only slightly smoked, so it is still pretty much raw. Others prefer to grill it with some garlic butter so it is falling apart in your mouth. Try it with some brown pasta and salad veggies and you’ll be in for a treat.

Fruits & Veg

The health benefits of fruits and veg is highly documented. The amount of vitamins and minerals they contain that contribute to the normal function of our body is amazing. There’s information out there telling you to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, although recent studies have said it should be more. The more you can swap junk food for fruit and veg, the brighter your future is going to be. A lot of them also contain fibre, which is essential for bowel function within our body. Bananas in particular are great for their levels of potassium, which helps to maintain a healthy blood pressure level. Fruits such as oranges have long been seen as a cure for illness due to their vitamin C levels. Vitamin C is an essential component to the function of the immune system.

Tofu

This is one for all the vegetarians out there. Tofu is a replacement for meat, and whilst it doesn’t taste like it, it is really good for you. The sad thing is, a lot of people actually have a love hate relationship with tofu. However, if you like it, or can find a way to like it, it is an amazing source of protein which is essential for muscle growth and repair. It has got all the nutrients needed for a healthy diet such as calcium to support bone growth, as well as a nice level of potassium.
