Crunchy Garlicky Fried Tofu Sticks with Sriracha Ketchup

Tofu might be a foreign food for many, but you will be surprised at how versatile and delicious it can be. Momma Cuisine is working with Chicago-based company, Phoenix Bean Tofu to share a couple of recipes that you can recreate easily at home.

Phoenix Bean Tofu uses only the finest Illinois grown non-GMO soybeans with no additives or preservatives to create flavorful tofu in small batches. Phoenix Bean Tofu products are naturally cholesterol and gluten free, and contain no trans fats.

Ingredients:
  • 1 package Phoenix Bean extra firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • Fresh cracked pepper
  • 2 cups plain bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup your favorite ketchup
  • 1/4 cup Sriracha sauce
  • 1 bunch scallions, sliced diagonally
Instructions:

Line a plate with paper towel and place the tofu on the plate. Place another paper towel on top of the tofu and take another plate and place it on top of the tofu lined with paper towel. This will press out any excess liquid from the tofu. Do this at least 20-30 minutes minimum ahead of cooking. I prefer overnight in the fridge.

Then, slice the tofu length wise. You can slice it thick like I did or mimic thin French fries. Take the ketchup and Sriracha sauce and mix it in a bowl and set aside.

Take a deep frying pan and heat oil to high heat.

Take your bread crumbs and garlic powder and mix together in a bowl.

In your bowl of beaten eggs, add the salt and pepper.

First, take a couple tofu sticks and coat them lightly with egg mixture, making sure it's not overly wet. Then, place the tofu sticks in the breadcrumbs and coat heavily.

Fry in batches until golden brown.

Top the Sriracha ketchup and tofu sticks with scallions for flavor and presentation.
