Are you planning an epic adventure to the Dominican Republic? This Caribbean country known for its beaches and seaside resorts has a whole lot of fun to offer. It’s not just the beaches you can enjoy. Let’s create a detailed itinerary that allows you to take in all that the Dominican Republic has to offer;

Preparing for Your Visit

Before you plan out anything else you must answer the following questions;

When do you want to visit the Dominican Republic?

The best time to visit is from December to April. These are warmer months where you will be able to enjoy around 26 degrees during the day with mild winds. If you end up visiting between January and March you might even be able to spot some whales.

How do you want to travel to the country?

You will need to book a plane to travel to the Dominican Republic. However, don’t just jump at the first quote you see. Make sure you go over different prices from various companies and choose the one that appeals to you the most.

Do you need the internet while you are there?

If you are travelling with your family you are definitely going to need some mode of communication in case you get lost. It’s quite easy to access the internet through eSIMs that are going to be sold at the airport by locals. Just get one, pop it in your phone, and you’re good to go.

How much are you willing to spend?

A trip to the Dominican Republic is going to cost you around $800 per person for the flight tickets, about $350 for car rental for the week, $1.17 per liter of petrol (if you are going to be using a car), $95 per night on average for hotel accommodations, and $35 per day per person when it comes to meals. Plan your budget accordingly!

Places to Visit for Your Dominican Republic Adventure

Here are a few locations you mustn’t miss on your adventure;

  1. Santo Domingo

If you are a culture buff, you will love this one. Santo Domingo is one of the oldest cities in the Caribbean where you can definitely enjoy colonial era architecture such as the Zona Colonial (the island’s oldest church). That’s not all! Once you step outside Zona the metropolis awaits with an exciting nightlife and many more cultural institutions to visit.

  1. Punta Cana

Although a bit overpriced, this is a great location especially if you manage to enter right when it opens. You get the place relatively free of crowds and can explore some of Caribbean’s most popular beaches. Once you get here, you can hop on a catamaran, enjoy tanning in the sun, or go deep sea diving in the waters!

  1. Samaná

If you are planning a visit between January and March and want to go whale watching, this is the ideal location. During these months, thousands of humpback whales visit the bay to give birth. It’s a once in a lifetime experience for sure!

You could also visit the El Museo de las Ballenas (Whale Museum) in Salinas, a town nearby, where you are guided through marine mammal exhibits, a 40ft skeleton of a mammal whale, souvenirs, and much more.

  1. Cabarete

Are you an adrenaline junkie? This location is perfect for you. Every year, it calls kayakers, wind surfers, snorkelers, and kite surfers to its pristine shoreline and offers them the best winds and tides for miles.

  1. Sosúa

This dairy and cheese capital is quiet and undisturbed throughout the day. However, at night time, tourists walk out onto the streets (which are strewn with bars and nightclubs) to enjoy the local live music.

A Few Honorary Mentions

There are so many places you can visit for an epic adventure. We had to include a few honorary locations on this list;

  • El Limón: Home to a 150ft waterfall that flows into a huge swimming pool.

  • Bayahibe: Perfect for scuba divers and snorkelers, harboring beautiful reefs and over 20 different dive sites.

  • Jarabacoa: Enjoy the Ebano Verde Scientific Reserve with more than 600 species of flora and fauna as well as the Carnaval festivities in February.

Final Thoughts

There are quite a lot of places you can visit in the Dominican Republic but it is important to pace yourself. Creating an itinerary that encompasses everything can be a headache. To solve this problem, book a pre-planned Dominican Republic tour that gives you the best of everything, just so you don’t need to worry about all the nitty gritty details before the trip!
