Six Tips For A Stress-Free, Successful Renovation

Renovating your house is probably one of the biggest jobs you can ever do. If you have taken the plunge and chosen to renovate an area of your house, then you need to think about everything from measurements to prices, budget to how the end result is going to look. It’s really hard, however, to make a renovation a stress-free exercise. Changing your house and ripping out areas of your house isn't always the easiest thing to live in, so you have to do all that you can to make sure that the renovations are as stress-free and easy to manage as possible.

While you’re worrying about your renovation, you have to plan the entire thing from start to finish to make it easy. From looking up storage units prices to store your stuff away from dust and dirt, to ensuring that you don't slip into a pure state of chaos, you have to get things in order if you want your renovation to be a successful one. So, with this in mind, here are six tips for your renovation to be as stress free as possible.

  1. Make sure that your phone has minutes/credit. If you want to renovate your home, you are going to need to have a phone that works to be able to communicate with the various companies involved. From the planners to the materials companies to communicating with the storage unit people, you are going to have a long list of people that you want to communicate with each day.

  2. Make a list. What are you planning on renovating and what do you need for it to go well? Write a list of everything so that your home is as fixed up as possible and the renovation goes well. Dedicate a notepad to keep track of who you have contracted and where you have communicated your needs to.

  3. Have someone look after the kids. If you have kids running around, a renovation is going to be even more stressful than you think. Get someone in to babysit the kids and if the renovation is going to go over several days, make sure that you have somewhere they can sleep. Away from the dust, away from the noise, you need your kids out from under the feet of the contractors.

  4. Order from suppliers. If you were adding a deck or an extension, order your materials directly from the suppliers so that you are fully aware of the costs and you’re not paying over the odds.

  5. Talk to more than one contractor. You don't have to stay with just one contractor or company. If you are planning a renovation, get quotes and ideas from more than one place.

  6. Plan, plan and plan. You want to ensure that you have the best possible outcome for your renovation and that means putting all of your thoughts into planning it out. A stress-free renovation is so much easier to manage when you have a plan to follow along the way.
