Video: Easy Lumpia Recipe (Philippine-Style Egg Rolls) | In The Kitch with Momma Cuisine

Lumpia is one, if not THE most popular and loved food coming from the Philippines. Crispy wrapper with a delicious filling of combined ground or minced meats with vegetables is our version of egg rolls and her is my recipe that I always make at home!!

Try making your lumpia with your favorite combo of stuffing. I have heard of people filling their lumpia with cheeseburger, pot roast. chicken adobo and so much more! Get creative and have fun with it!

Ingredients:
  • 1 package large rice wrapping paper
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 medium Spanish onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons minced ginger
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup diced
  • 3 cups sliced green cabbage
  • 2 cups chopped kale
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:

Heat a large saute pan or pot with 2 tablespoons of oil and reserve the rest for later. Saute the onions, garlic and ginger until onions are translucent.

Then, add the ground pork and brown, breaking the pieces up with a wooden spoon. After about 3-5 minutes, add potatoes and saute until the potatoes have softened.

Then, add the cabbage and kale, soy sauce, salt and pepper. Saute for about 10 minutes until everything has been incorporated and softened. Taste for seasoning. Place in a bowl and let completely cool.

Take your wrapping paper out of the package and place a damp paper towel over it to keep it from drying out.

On a large flat surface, place the wrapping paper with one of the edges towards you, making a diamond shape. Take 2-3 tablespoons of filling and place 1/4 of the way up from the edge closest to you, leaving edges and roll like a cigar, folding the left and right edges in like a burrito. Continue to roll like a cigar and brush the last corner with egg to seal it closed. Repeat.

Heat a deep pot with 1 cup of olive and heat to 250 degrees, Fry the lumpia until golden brown.

Why Olive oil versus vegetable oil? Doesn't the Olive oil affect the taste of the Lumpia?
